On April 21, 2014, the South Carolina Aeronautics Commission unanimously elected Kappel to the post of Vice-Chairman. As Vice-Chairman, Kappel will fill in for Delphin A. Gantt, Jr. anytime Chairman Gantt is unavailable. Kappel is excited to step into this new position and support Chairman Gantt in carrying out the mission of the South Carolina Aeronautics Commission.
The South Carolina Aeronautics Commission implements statewide policy regarding the SC aviation system and state owned aircraft which includes a Beechcraft King Air 350 and a King Air C90.
Martindale and Hubble awarded Matt Kappel an AV rating based upon the opinions of lawyers and judges in South Carolina. Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings which were created in 1887 are based on the opinions of other lawyers and judges who have worked with the lawyers they are evaluating. Responding to Martindale and Hubble’s inquiry, a former circuit court judge stated “I have known Matt Kappel for about 16 years. I saw him try many cases while I served as a judge and we have represented co-defendants in criminal matters since I returned to private practice. On July 3, 2013, the Superior Court of Buncombe County in North Carolina and the U.S. District Court of the Western District of North Carolina, respectively, administered the lawyers’ oath and admitted Matt to practice in their courts. Admission to practice in North Carolina was the culmination of a long journey that included three weeks of intense study, passing the two-day North Carolina Bar Examination, and the National Multi-State Ethics examination.
Matt’s daughter joined him for this memorable day and watched as he signed the NC Attorney’s Oath.
On March 16, 2012, WSPA-TV in Spartanburg, SC, aired a segment that centered around Matt Kappel’s participation in Angel Flight, a non-profit organization out of Atlanta, Georgia that provides free air transportation to individuals with any legitimate charitable or medically related need.
